Did Seahawks' Drew Lock Earn Second Chance As Starting QB vs. Packers?
With several key starters resting in their preseason finale, the Seattle Seahawks had the chance to evaluate numerous understudies in their 19-15 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Saturday afternoon.
Among those who got a chance to play on Saturday afternoon was second-string quarterback Drew Lock, who had a solid performance. The signal-caller completed 16 of his 25 passes for 150 yards, including an 18-yard, perfectly-placed touchdown pass to undrafted receiver Jake Bobo.
One of the key takeaways from Lock's performance on Saturday was his ability to avoid turnovers. At the start of his career, he struggled with turnovers, throwing 20 interceptions in 21 starts during his time with the Denver Broncos. Except for one misjudged throw that led to an interception in the preseason opener, Lock has showcased a more disciplined approach to protecting the football. He has only registered a single turnover in the team's three exhibition games.
This should position Lock favorably in the 2024 offseason as he enters free agency. One of the significant criticisms of Lock's game has been his tendency to turn over the ball frequently. However, following a series of solid performances in the preseason, it might potentially attract interest from another team willing to believe in Lock enough to offer him a second chance to be a starting NFL quarterback.
Lock will now look to assist starting quarterback Geno Smith and the rest of his teammates for the Seahawks' Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams at Lumen Field on Sept. 10.
