'Best Friend!': Seahawks' Quandre Diggs Pushing for Darius Slay Trade
The recruiting grind doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon for Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs, as he seems to have found a new target not named Bobby Wagner.
And as he's been doing every day during the early parts of the offseason, Diggs took to Twitter to show how exhausted he is with recruiting guys like Wagner and former Seahawk and recently-released Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark.
And surprise! Diggs' new target is another former teammate of his.
The Philadelphia Eagles gave five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay permission to request a trade, per reports from ESPN on Friday. Diggs saw the news and wasted no time tweeting at Slay. The two played four-and-a-half seasons together with the Detroit Lions and clearly built a strong relationship, as Diggs is now recruiting his "best friend."
"Well Well Well what do we have here!" Diggs tweeted. "Mr. Slay @bigplay24slay your best friend is over here in Seattle loving life I think you will too brother!"
Slay responded to Diggs with "Nino!" but wouldn't give in to the public pressure of potentially admitting he wants to be traded to Seattle.
But Diggs didn't stop there, continuing to persuade.
"You already know my people so it shouldn’t be hard to have the convo!" Diggs tweeted.
Should the Seahawks and the Eagles agree to a deal involving the one-time All-Pro, Seattle would be adding an elite play-maker to a budding secondary.
Slay, who finished with a league-leading eight interceptions and 26 passes defended with the Lions in 2017, has continued to live up to his "Big Play" nickname since then. He led the league in interception return yards (116) and pick-sixes (two) in 2021 before adding three more picks to his career total this past season.
Diggs even made sure his Seahawks timeline got a reminder of what Slay is capable of, sharing a highlight reel from Week 2 of this past season, a performance that saw the Eagles star total two interceptions and five passes defended in a win over the Minnesota Vikings.
The Seahawks would have to pull out the stops to add one of the league's best corners to a secondary that already features Diggs, Tariq Woolen and Coby Bryant while potentially getting Jamal Adams back.
Securing a trade for Slay would signal that the Seahawks are all in on being a contender in the NFC. Back to work, Quandre!
