Seahawks WR Room 'Stacked!' Says Drew Lock
The Seattle Seahawks notched back-to-back wins to open their preseason after a 22-14 victory over the Dallas Cowboys at Lumen Field on Saturday.
Several players impressed, rookie receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba (three catches, 58 yards) and Jake Bobo (two catches, 43 yards) both showed their talents as the offense got into a groove.
For backup quarterback Drew Lock, who went 5 of 6 passing for 119 yards vs. the Cowboys, the night felt easy. The receiving weapons at his disposal showed that, at its best, Seattle has a balanced offense that can hurt defense in a variety of ways.
Safe to say that Lock was impressed.
“We know what that room’s capable of,” Lock said. “That room is stacked with really good players right now, and to be able to help our run game, get us a couple of explosives [plays] in the pass. We know our run game is going to be explosive, but to get that second piece, big plays, big chunk plays, and then to come back to the run, it just makes us a more well-rounded offense."
Arguably the biggest acquisition of Seattle's offseason was the first-round selection of Smith-Njigba, and he hasn't taken long to get adjusted to life as an NFL receiver.
Smith-Njigba got his feet underneath him in Game 1 of the preseason against the Minnesota Vikings, but more so against the Cowboys in Game 2. Lock and Smith-Njigba combined for a 48-yard bomb in the second quarter as he announced himself to the Seahawks faithful.
“He’s been amazing,” Lock said of Smith-Njigba. “I think the biggest part about him is his composure. Not once have I felt like he was a rookie out there, he’s confident in himself, he knows what he’s doing, and when the balls in the air, he’s going to make a play on it and get it, turn something into nothing when he gets the ball in his hands.”
Seattle had the ninth-ranked offense for points scored last season (23.9 points per game), and adding another receiver talent to complement D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett (both 1,000-plus yard receivers last year), gives Geno Smith a three-headed monster to utilize.
Bobo is also forming as a genuine weapon at Shane Waldron's disposal as he again showcased his receiving talents while also nearly blocking a punt on special teams that Seahawks got a hand on anyways.
There are some who are sleeping on this Seattle team heading into the season, but a "stacked" receiver room will be hard to overlook.
