'Something Special' Happening With Seahawks Rookies, Says Pete Carroll

With rookie minicamp underway, coach Pete Carroll had plenty of praise for the Seattle Seahawks' rookies so far.
In this story:

Even though the start of the season is still months away there is still a lot to be excited about for the Seattle Seahawks. A playoff berth last season paired with another loaded draft class means high expectations, with the Seahawks ready to compete with the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC West crown.

Their pair of first-round picks were in Devon Witherspoon and Jaxon Smith-Njigba were limited in Friday's practice as a precaution due to hamstring injuries during the offseason. Despite that, though, coach Pete Carroll loves what he's seen from rookie mini camp so far.

"It's a solid group of guys, like we've said from the beginning, the personalities of them," Carroll said. "It feels like there are a number of guys that will have the potential kind of makeup to be leaders. You can just feel it. It's a very confident group, not cocky at all. They're ready to work."

"I really am charged about this group, and the whole offseason, there's been a sense that something special is happening."

When Witherspoon and Smith-Njigba are full participants - whenever that happens this offseason - expectations will likely only rise in Seattle. After all, adding a plethora of talent to one of the NFL's better rosters means those expectations exist - expectations that the Seahawks are ready to exceed once again.
