Seahawks' Jaxon Prediction: Best Rookie WR in NFL?

One of four first-round receivers, Jaxon Smith-Njigba has the potential for a strong first season with the Seattle Seahawks.
In this story:

There were four receivers drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba among them. Selected by the Seattle Seahawks, the rookie playmaker joins one of the league's most potent offenses.

Even though he has yet to take a single snap at the professional level, the excitement around Smith-Njigba is understandably high. With three other talented receivers drafted in the first round, Sports Illustrated raised the question - which one will have the biggest impact this season?

"Smith-Njigba will have both D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett with whom to share targets," Sports Illustrated writes, "while (the Chargers' Quentin) Johnston will have a similar situation with entrenched veterans Keenan Allen and Mike Williams."

"(Zay) Flowers will have Odell Beckham Jr. and Rashod Bateman to compete with, and (Minnesota's Jordan) Addison will be a distant second fiddle to perhaps the best receiver in the league in Justin Jefferson."

For Smith-Njigba, sharing the field with one of the NFL's better receiver duos in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett could certainly limit his production. Last season the pair combined for 2,081 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on 174 receptions.

That, paired with running back Kenneth Walker III coming off a season which he rushed 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns, means it could be a boom-or-bust first year for Smith-Njigba.

"Seattle's balanced offense doesn't air it out too much, so Smith-Njigba's opportunities are likely to come as a result of opposing defenses paying too much attention to Metcalf and Lockett," Sports Illustrated writes. "He could have weeks where he disappears, and other weeks where he catches multiple touchdowns."

Fortunately for Smith-Njigba, he lands in a fine situation for a rookie receiver needing to adjust to the NFL. While it may mean lower production in his first season, he certainly has the potential to stand out above his fellow first-round receivers.
