Seahawks Make Four Roster Moves, Sign Pair of CBs
As the Seattle Seahawks continued OTAs on Thursday, the front office made some moves to get new faces onto the practice field.
The Seahawks announced that they've made four roster transactions, signing two players and releasing two others. Seattle has signed former Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Benjie Franklin and former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Montrae Braswell to contracts while waiving running back Chris Smith and defensive tackle LaTrell Bumphus in corresponding moves.
Braswell's time with the defending-champion Chiefs was short-lived, as he signed with them as an undrafted free agent after going un-selected in April before being waived. But his production in college at Missouri State might've turned heads in the Seahawks front office.
At Missouri State, Braswell played in 29 games while posting 125 tackles, six interceptions, 25 passes defended, two forced fumbles. He also proved lethal as a returner, averaging 30 yards per return across three seasons. This was highlighted by a trio of touchdown returns for 100, 96 and 98 yards.
Franklin comes in with more NFL experience than his cornerback counterpart. He signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent last year before making his way to the Green Bay Packers practice squad.
The Seahawks' secondary is fixing to be one of the team's most exciting units this upcoming season with Devon Witherspoon, Quandre Diggs and Tariq Woolen leading the way with Artie Burns, Mike Jackson, and Coby Bryant as well. Adding Braswell and Franklin now assures that there's some depth to fall back on.
