Seahawks QB Holton Ahlers Making Roster Bid? 'Not Surprised'

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll felt good about what he saw from undrafted quaterback Holton Ahlers in the team's preseason victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
In this story:

During last week's preseason opener at Lumen Field, the Seattle Seahawks were introduced to several rookies as they secured a 24-13 victory against the Minnesota Vikings.

Among these rookies was undrafted quarterback Holton Ahlers, who made an excellent initial impression on the team. In his first game with the Seahawks, he rushed for 26 yards and completed all four pass attempts, including a 30-yard touchdown pass to receiver Matt Landers, which sealed the game for Seattle.

Despite it being his first NFL touchdown, coach Pete Carroll believes that his accomplishments at the high school level have prepared him for this significant moment as a professional.

“To me, he’s a quarterback," Carroll said. "And I say that because he’s got a real mentality for it. He’s comfortable with the challenge of the job even on this level. I mean he’s thrown hundreds of touchdown passes. I think he threw 62 touchdown passes his senior year in high school. 62. How many games do they play? So, you can just tell, he’s been there and done it."

Additionally, Carroll shared that he wasn't caught off guard by Ahlers' success during the team's preseason opener.

"He’s got a good tough mentality about him. You saw him run the football a little bit. I’m not surprised that he was like four-for-four with a touchdown pass to kind of put the game away. So, I’m really excited about what he’s doing,” Carroll said.

As the Seahawks prepare to host the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, followed by a matchup at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 26th, the upcoming preseason games will hold significant importance for Ahlers. These games provide him with an opportunity to show that he deserves a place on the Seahawks' 53-man roster if he can maintain the level of play he exhibited in the team's preseason opener.
