Seahawks Coach Sean Desai Hired by Eagles, Per Pete Carroll
After offers from multiple teams, Seattle Seahawks associate head coach and defensive assistant Sean Desai has officially been hired by the Philadelphia Eagles to be their next defensive coordinator. The source? Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who told reporters in an off-podium media session at the NFL Combine on Tuesday that Desai has landed the job.
Multiple reports have confirmed Carroll's announcement.
The Eagles brought Desai back for another interview on Monday, a move thought to have signaled that the team views him as top candidate and wanted to confirm their thoughts by speaking to him a second time.
The Eagles lost defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who will now be facing the Seahawks twice a year as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. As for Desai, he now has a chance to get hired into a role that likely gives him the best shot of winning a ring.
Desai recently withdrew his name from consideration for the Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator job to focus on landing the same title with the Denver Broncos. However, that race ended when Vance Joseph was named Sean Payton's defensive coordinator on Thursday.
Now that he's in Philly, Desai takes over an elite Eagles defense that was the runaway leader in sacks (70) this past season while also finishing with the third-best turnover differential and allowing the second-fewest yards per game (301.5).
