Seattle Seahawks Tyler Lockett 'Big Brother' For WR Room, Says DK Metcalf

Seattle Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf has detailed what it has been like having a veteran Tyler Lockett in the room and called him a big brother to the unit.

Young players always need that veteran presence to help them transition into the NFL and for Seattle Seahawks star DK Metcalf, that player was Tyler Lockett.

Coming into the league in 2019 as a second-round pick, Metcalf was taken under Lockett's wing. With both guys having now solidified their star-level ability at receiver, the former Ole Miss standout has detailed what makes Lockett such a great player.

“Just his presence out on the field alone, the defense has to honor him,” Metcalf said. "You can’t leave him one-on-one because he’s going to take advantage of that every time. Tyler doesn’t say a word, he always goes out there, gives 100 percent effort, runs every route like he’s getting the ball, so a good big brother for me and Jaxon [Smith-Njigba] to continue to learn from and just happy that he’s been my teammate and my receiver duo the last five years.”

Lockett has been underrated for a long time for many casual fans outside of Seattle. He has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last four years while becoming an invaluable member of Shane Waldron's offense.

Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett (16) and wide receiver DK Metcalf (14) return to the locker room following a 37-27 victory against the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field.

But despite his consistent production, Lockett isn't the only star on Seattle's offense - bruising running back Kenneth Walker is starting to make a name for himself in the league.

Just in his second year, Walker is starting to stamp his authority on the league with his brutal running style now becoming a feature.

Through three games, Walker has steadily improved and now has 204 yards and four touchdowns on 47 attempts while averaging 4.3 yards a run.

For Metcalf, Walker is the straw that stirs the drink on offense.

“He sets the tone, especially in the running back room,” Metcalf said. “Especially when we’re out there on offense, just with how he runs the ball, a play is never dead or over when he gets the ball in his hands. He’s an incredible running back, special that we have him on our team, and looking forward to what he does in the future.”

Seattle has found its groove offensively over the last two weeks, with Lockett and Walker both coming up big.

With Lockett continuing to mentor the receiver room and Walker being the tone-setter, we can see why many were so bullish on what the Seahawks could do this season.

Seattle faces the New York Giants on Monday Night Football as it looks to secure its third straight win, and we imagine that both Walker and Lockett will have a big say in the outcome of the result at MetLife Stadium.
