Seahawks' Tyler Lockett Avoids Ridicule For Potential Costly Error vs. Lions
The Seattle Seahawks were victorious on the road in their Week 2 matchup against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
The Seahawks ended up needing overtime to pull out the 37-31 victory to move to 1-1 this season, and they also needed a huge effort from veteran receiver Tyler Lockett. The Kansas State product and three-time All-Pro finished the day with eight catches for 59 yards and two touchdowns, with one of those touchdowns being the game-winner in overtime.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was asked about Lockett stretching the ball over the pylon to secure the game. The head coach isn't a fan of it, that is unless it's the game-winning touchdown of course. When asked if Lockett would be getting called out in the next meeting Carroll explained why he wouldn't.
"Only when you win the game it's ok, game-winners," Carroll of stretching over the pylon. "He has enough presence to know when to do it and when not to do it, he's been in this game as long as anybody. I mean what a great game he had, just does all the little things so well and he's a master."
Carroll has some understandable reasons for wanting his players to not extend over the pylon. Lockett could've fumbled out of the end zone, which would have resulted in a touchback and possession for Detroit. Safe to say it was a best-case scenario this time around.
While most people think of DK Metcalf as the Seahawks' best receiver, the numbers through the first couple of games indicate that Lockett is Geno Smith's favorite target. He leads the team in catches (10), targets (14), and touchdown catches (two).
He and the Seahawks will have another chance on Sunday to secure a win, as they are set to host the Carolina Panthers who just lost a close one with the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.
