Seahawks LB Uchenna Nwosu Named 'Biggest Bust'
Even though the Seattle Seahawks surprised the NFL and made the playoffs last season, there was still definite room for improvement in some areas, particularity on defense.
The Seahawks fielded the 25th-best scoring defense, allowing 23.6 points per game on 361.7 yards of total offense. Despite that, though, there were bright spots on the defensive side of the ball for Seattle.
One of those bright spots was linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, who put together the best season of his career. Even after having a career year, however, Bleacher Report listed Nwosu as the Seahawks' biggest potential bust entering the season.
"It's important to keep in mind that sacks can be a deceiving stat when it comes to edge defenders," B/R writes. "The crucial element of playing the position is disrupting the quarterback and beating the man across from them."
All it takes is one look at Nwosu's impressive numbers from both 2021 and 2022 to show what he can do when starting consistently. In 2021 he started 15 games, recording a then career-high 40 tackles with eight tackles for loss and five sacks.
He then followed that up with an even stronger season in 2022. Starting 17 games for the first time in his career, he recorded new career-high marks across the board - racking up 66 tackles with 12 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks, as well as three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Nwosu is coming off a career year, which to some brings skepticism about whether or not it is a blip on the radar. However, if he can take another step forward in 2023, he has the potential to once again anchor Seattle's defensive front -- and prove the "bust" acquisitions wrong.
