Brian Flores Moves Closer to Staying With Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers could find themselves keeping Brian Flores this offseason.
In this story:

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers spent the last week in Mobile, Alabama, scouting NFL Draft prospects at the Senior Bowl. With them was senior defensive assistant Brian Flores, who, as of now, remains with the team. And despite strong expectation he would leave for a higher position within the NFL this offseason, it appears he's moving closer to staying in Pittsburgh.

Flores was once considered a finalist for the Arizona Cardinals head coach job. However, Arizona has started their second round of interviews, and Flores is not part of them. With the elimination of the Cardinals position, Flores is now down to two interviews, with one looking less likely due to recent news.

UPDATE: Flores a Late Addition to Cardinals' Second Round of Interviews

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Flores was one of two finalists for the Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator job. He is currently looked at as the backup if the Denver Broncos did not allow current DC Ejiro Evero out of his contract. After days of contemplation, though, Denver has released Evero, making it likely he signs with Minnesota.

Leaving Flores with one open opportunity he's currently linked to - the Broncos' defensive coordinator position.

Denver requested to interview Flores for their DC job to replace Evero. If hired, he'd work with Sean Payton, who the Broncos recently traded with the New Orleans Saints. If not, he'll remain an option for a small list of potential jobs still open.

While Denver remains a possibility, the once slim chance Flores returns to the Steelers is now a real possibility. During his sole season in Pittsburgh, the team's defense went from last in rushing defense to ninth. An improvement players have credited Flores with contributing to.
