DeAndre Hopkins Expected to Make Life Difficult for Steelers
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't likely a contender for All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, although anyone with that talent level is worth at least making a phone call to.
The free agent wideout could make life a little more difficult for the Steelers, though. As he sifts through teams looking to sign him, he may land on two organizations Pittsburgh defenders do not want him to be in. And two more they might find on the way to a championship run.
At BetOnline.ag, the Dallas Cowboys are the running favorite to land Hopkins this offseason. However, the Baltimore Ravens (8/1 odds) and Cleveland Browns (16/1 odds) are both in the running.
This comes with ESPN's Jeremy Fowler naming the Browns a dark horse for Hopkins as he hopes to rejoin quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Adding Hopkins to an AFC North that already consists of Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, Amari Cooper and Odell Beckham Jr. isn't the best situation for the Steelers. They did bulk up their cornerback room with Patrick Peterson and rookies Joey Porter Jr. and Cory Trice Jr., but adding talented wideouts isn't ideal for anyone.
It doesn't end there, though. The Kansas City Chiefs (4/1 odds) are the second-favorite to land Hopkins, with the Buffalo Bills not far behind with 6/1 odds.
Pittsburgh doesn't play either of the AFC contenders in the regular season, but it's hard to imagine a playoff run that doesn't consist of at least one of those two teams. So, if the Steelers are thinking Super Bowl run, they have to be thinking of facing Hopkins at some point.
Hopkins landing in the AFC makes the road a little more rocky for Pittsburgh. Are they stressing about it? Probably not. But it's always something to monitor when there's a direct impact on their path to a Lombardi.
