Steelers New CB to Play for First Time
PITTSBURGH -- For the first time since signing, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made cornerback Desmond King active on game day, dressing him for their Week 3 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
King signed just before the regular season and was a healthy inactive during the first two weeks of the season. Head coach Mike Tomlin explained the decision was simply because King was adjusting to a new defense, and needed time to grow into the rotation.
King will be utilized on defense but could also see time as a returner. With Anthony McFarland on Injured Reserve and Gunner Olszewski out with a concussion, King or wide receiver Calvin Austin will handle kick and punt return duties.
King brings nine interceptions and two punt return touchdowns into his first career start for the Steelers.
Pittsburgh will have seven cornerbacks active against the Raiders: Patrick Peterson, Levi Wallace, James Pierre, Joey Porter Jr., Elijah Riley, Chandon Sullivan and King.
