ESPN Predicts Steelers Starting QB

ESPN had an interesting prediction for who will start at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season.
In this story:

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the hunt for improved quarterback play this offseason - whether it comes from Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph or outside the organization.

ESPN's Seth Walder believes the Steelers will reach for an outsider and make a flashy trade to get their next starting quarterback. He predicts that they will land the Bears' Justin Fields, bringing him in to be their starter in 2024.

"The Steelers' next franchise quarterback is not currently on the roster. Kenny Pickett hasn't shown enough growth in two seasons, and even though Mason Rudolph played well in a few starts down the stretch, he hasn't been consistent enough in his career to be a safe option going forward," Walter wrote. "That they managed 10 wins last season despite their weak QB group makes them a candidate to deal for Fields, who could be a decent fit with new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith."

Reports from the NFL Combine indicated that the Bears were eager to reach a deal with a Justin Fields suitor soon. Should the Steelers be interested, they could have the framework of a trade with Chicago done before they leave Indianapolis next week.

Pickett is the only Steelers quarterback under contract going into the 2024 season. They have options to round out their group of signal-callers - retain Rudolph - who is currently a free agent - add another veteran like Russell Wilson or Kirk Cousins, trade for a player like Fields or select one of the rookies available this spring.

According to ESPN, fans can expect the Steelers to fill their most important position by way of a landmark trade.
