Hall of Famer Blasts Steelers WR Diontae Johnson

The Pittsburgh Steelers wideout is taking plenty of heat for his lack of effort on a crucial play.

PITTSBURGH -- The lack of effort from Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson during the team's only turnover of the game in Week 12 has caught fire across the NFL landscape. And one Hall of Famer was particularly loud when torching the veteran wideout.

During his Nightcap podcast, Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe didn't hold back about his thoughts on Johnson's play - or lack thereof.

"Diontae Johnson, bro, you drop a touchdown, and then you walk off the ball, the ball is fumbled, and you do nothing? Man, hell no! Walking off the ball," Sharpe said. "It’s a bad look because you’re complaining about the ball, you dropped the touchdown on the play before, and then ou walk off the ball, ok, walking off the ball is bad enough, but then the ball popped out and you don’t even chase. You can’t do that."

The play in reference was a fumble by Jaylen Warren during the first quarter. Johnson was caught by cameras not attempting a block and then walking away when the ball comes out in front of him.

The play came right after Johnson dropped a pass in the endzone that probably should have been ruled a touchdown.

"I just didn’t see it," Johnson said about the fumble. "I was just doing what I was doing — blocking or whatever."

Johnson's play will remain a hot topic of conversation, but the Steelers will likely handle any repercussions from the incident in-house.
