Rams Release Kicker After Steelers Game

The Los Angeles Rams are moving on after a tough performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

PITTSBURGH -- The Los Angeles Rams have released veteran kicker Brett Maher just two days after he missed two field goals and an extra point in Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

Maher, 33, signed with the Rams this offseason after spending three of the last four years with the Dallas Cowboys. He spent the 2021 season with the New Orleans Saints. 

Maher currently leads the league in made field goals with 17 but has already missed six kicks in the first seven weeks. Four of those six came from attempts of 50 yards or longer. 

The seven points Maher missed was the final deficit between the Steelers and Rams this past weekend as Pittsburgh walked away 24-17 winners, moving to 4-2 while LA dropped to 3-4.

Los Angeles currently doesn't have a kicker on their roster and will begin combing through candidates before they take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8.
