Report: Mason Rudolph Open to Steelers Return
PITTSBURGH -- Mason Rudolph is set to be a free agent for the first time in his career, but the veteran quarterback is open to a return to the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to TribLive's Tim Benz.
Benz reports Rudolph's top priority is to look for an option outside of Pittsburgh but isn't shutting out a return. However, he'd only consider it if the Steelers were to move on from current backup Mitch Trubisky.
Trubisky remains a hot topic for the Steelers as he's set to make $10.6 million, and Pittsburgh can save $8 million if they cut him.
Reports have claimed the team is interested in sticking with Trubisky because of Kenny Pickett's familiarity with him and his mentorship during the season. Pickett mentioned multiple times during the season, though, that Rudolph also helped with his development. If the Steelers are looking for a familiar face, Rudolph will likely be a cheaper option.
Rudolph is 5-4-1 as a starter in Pittsburgh with a 61.5 completion percentage, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He dressed for just one game in 2022.
