Dolphins Sign Steelers LB Malik Reed

The Miami Dolphins pick up Malik Reed after one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Malik Reed has signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, according to his agent Mike McCartney.

The Steelers traded a sixth-round draft pick to the Denver Broncos for a seventh-round pick and Reed prior to the start of the 2022 season. He played 14 games, including two starts, and recorded 25 tackles and a sack.

It didn't feel expected that the Steelers would bring Reed back after last season. While the hope was that Reed would become the team's third edge rusher, his lack of success in run-stopping made it difficult to keep him active during matchups with AFC North teams like the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

Right now, Pittsburgh's outside linebacker depth is Jamir Jones and Quincey Roche. The team reportedly has interest in bringing back former first-round pick Bud Dupree after he was released by the Tennessee Titans.
