PITTSBURGH -- Head coach Mike Tomlin will not be in attendance when the Pittsburgh Steelers host their annual Friday Night Lights practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.

Team reporter Dale Lolley announced Tomlin will be in Canton, Ohio honoring former player Ronde Barber at the Golden Jacket Ceremony for the Hall of Fame class.

Tomlin coached Barber when the two were in Tampa Bay. Barber was a four-time All-Pro at cornerback during Tomlin's time as the Buccaneers defensive backs coach. The two also won Super Bowl XXXVII together.

During the Hall of Fame Game, Barber praised his former assistant coach, saying he would never be here without him.

"His influence on me is without words," Barber said. "He transformed me into the player that is now standing in Canton and get ready to get a golden jacket. There’s a lot of ways I could go about it but really he empowered me and went about methodically making me that guy. I love him to death. We’re best friends still to this day. I can’t wait for him to get here. He’s coming over here from Pittsburgh. He’s one of the guys I’m looking forward to the most sharing this weekend with."

The Steelers take the field at 7 p.m. for Friday Night Lights. It's assumed all other coaches will be in attendance, along with all healthy players.
