Mike Tomlin Acknowledges Time Left With Steelers is Limited
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have two years left on head coach Mike Tomlin's contract, and until they make it known they're moving on, the expectation is that he'll earn another deal by the time his current one expire. But the Super Bowl-winning coach understands his time in the NFL isn't going to last forever.
During the opening day of training camp, Tomlin was asked about his contract situation and whether or not he believes it will be renewed before the start of the regular season.
"I haven't even thought about it," Tomlin said. "I'm just at the stage of my career where I don't even think about contracts to be honest with you. I acknowledged that I've seen more days than I'm going to see. That's just the nature of this thing. I'm appreciative of the opportunity. I'm singularly focused. I'm thankful I'm in a stage in my life and my career that it's a non-issue for me."
The head coach has led the Steelers for 17 years and has been in the NFL since 2001. In his career, he's won two Super Bowls and played in three of them.
According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac, Tomlin won't receive a contract extension this offseason, but is still viewed as the only head coaching option for the team moving forward.
As for Tomlin's view on the situation and whether or not he feels any added pressure knowing his days as a head coach are limited.
"It can, I don't know that it does," Tomlin said. "I'm on 10 always."
