Patriots Shut Down Former Steelers WR
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster will finish his season on Injured Reserve due to a lingering ankle injury. With the New England Patriots eliminated from the playoffs, they'll shut down Smith-Schuster for the final two games.
Smith-Schuster appeared in just 11 games during his first season with the Patriots, catching 29 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown. During the year, he dealt with a concussion and some knee troubles before his ankle injury.
The former second-round pick signed a three-year, $33 million this offseason after spending last season with the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent his first five seasons in the NFL with the Steelers, catching 323 passes for 3,855 yards and 26 touchdowns.
His best game this year came in Week 15 against the Steelers when he caught four passes for 90 yards on the Patriots' way to defeating Pittsburgh.
Smith-Schuster's next game with the Patriots will likely come with a new rookie quarterback with New England currently holding the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
