Pat McAfee Has Great Idea for Steelers

Pat McAfee has a big idea for the Pittsburgh Steelers next play-caller.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't replacing Matt Canada this season, but if they did, ESPN show host Pat McAfee has a big name that should be the team's next offensive coordinator.

McAfee brought up the question on the Pat McAfee Show of whether or not the Steelers should look at another option to be their play-caller moving forward.

That option is former quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

"It’s very evident to me that he is paying attention. He’s dialed into the offense. He is still paying attention to what other teams are doing. Why not Ben Roethlisberger calling plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers?" McAfee asked.

"He knows the plays. He knows the players. If he doesn't come back and save the city of Pittsburgh, he's kind of being selfish," co-host Tony Diggs replied.

Roethlisberger has been critical of the team's offense this season, voicing him opinion on the play-calling more than once through four games.

"I hated the play call," Roethlisberger said on his podcast 'Footbahlin' about the team's failed 4th and 1 attempt against the Texans. "Probably 99.9 percent disagree with it. When they came out, when they called timeout, I figured it was QB sneak. You could run with Naj up the middle because he’s been running pretty hard. Or, if you really want to get creative with it, sell it like you’re going to run it because everyone knows you’re going to run it and go with a really hard play action and take a shot up over the top. We used do that on fourth down a lot. I hit AB times, Eli Rogers, I’ve hit almost every receiver. You have one guy go over top and one guy across. The Raiders did it last week, they hit Davante Adams for a touchdown…it has to be those three things. They came out in shotgun and I was like, 'Maybe they’re going to draw offsides or shift,' but they snapped the ball. I saw they were running a choice route and I don’t believe it.""

The future Hall of Famer was always known for "drawing plays in the dirt" during games, which leads you to believe he could take over as a play-caller on the sideline. Will he? Chances are not this season.
