Steelers Add LB After T.J. Watt Injury
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are stocking up their outside linebacker room following the injury to T.J. Watt that will keep him out of the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Watt will miss the first round of the playoffs as the Steelers travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills. In his place, veteran Markus Golden and rookie Nick Herbig will fill in on the opposite side of Alex Highsmith, with Kyron Johnson providing depth off the bench.
The Steelers are now adding to their practice squad to provide even more depth during the week. The team announced they have signed David Perales to their P-Squad while also releasing Nate Meadors.
Perales is an undrafted rookie out of Fresno State who spent the summer with the Steelers. He initially signed to their practice squad at the beginning of the year and has bounced back and forth between being on the team and being released to add different positions to their practice squad.
During his time at Fresno State, Perales recorded 22.5 sacks, including 11.5 his final season.
Currently, Watt is expected to miss a "few" games with his grade 2 MCL sprain, but the Steelers are likely playing it week-by-week as they work through the playoffs.
