Steelers Add Fourth Candidate to OC Search
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have added another candidate to their list of potential offensive coordinators, interviewing Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, sources tell All Steelers.
Johnson has been a growing name in the offensive coordinator carosul after the Texans won the AFC South and rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud led the team with 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns. Since the offseason began, he's been named a candidate for the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints jobs.
Johnson, who played for the Steelers as a training camp quarterback in 2012, has coached in the NFL since 2017. He started as part of the Bill Walsch Coaching Diversity fellowship with the San Francisco 49ers, then held the same role with the Inianapolis Colts the following year. He remained in Indy as their offensive quality control coach from 2020 to 2021 before spending the 2022 season as the Minnesota Vikings assistant QB coach.
He has since spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons as the Texans QB coach.
The Steelers have conducted an interview with former Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, and have reportedly requested to interview Los Angeles Rams QB coach Zac Robinson. Reports also claim they will speak with USC senior offensive assistant Kliff Kingsbury.
