Steelers OLB Suffers Neck Injury Against Patriots
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers defense took a massive blow early in Week 14 against the New England Patriots after outside linebacker Alex Highsmith was taken off the field with an injury.
Highsmith stayed down on the ground following a redzone run by the Patriots. He was in clear pain as teammates gathered around him on a knee. Trainers ran out to evaluate him, helping him to his feet before he was able to walk off on his own power.
He was taken to the medical tent for further evaluation. The team then announced Highsmith suffered a neck injury and is questionable to return to the game.
Without Highsmith, the Steelers are limited at outside linebacker. They chose to make backup Markus Golden inactive against the Patriots, leaving them with rookie Nick Herbig and practice squad call-up Kyron Johnson available off the bench.
The Steelers had more injury concerns at outside linebacker as T.J. Watt was taken to the medical tent earlier in the game. He's since returned to action.
