Former Steelers LB Tased By Police After Violent Hospital Attack
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Anthony Chickillo was tased by police this week after police say he had an episode inside of a doctor's office, according to TMZ.
According to the Hialeah Police Department, Chickillo was inside a Hialeah, Fla hospital when he suddenly began "attacking everyone," including his father, whom he got into a wrestling match with inside the hospital.
"Witnesses say he suddenly snapped and began 'trashing' an office, breaking things and throwing chairs," TMZ writes.
After police arrived, they tased a barefoot, shirtless Chickillo before taking him away from the area in handcuffs. He was not arrested but instead put on a 72-hour psychiatric hold, and will not arrested following his release after those at the doctor's office decided not to press charges.
"It was just a medical situation," Chickillo's girlfriend Tatu Baby told TMZ. She claims it's in relation to the concussions he suffered during his football career.
Chickillo had a run-in with the law in 2019 for a domestic issue with his girlfriend, but the charges were dropped after she refused to testify against him. The Steelers eventually released him before playing his final two seasons with the Denver Broncos.
