Former Steelers RB Joins UFL

The former Pittsburgh Steelers draft pick is taking a chance in the spring league.
In this story:

PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Anthony McFarland has found a new football home, signing with the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League, the team announced.

McFarland was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent most of his career on the practice squad, but had opportunities to make a name for himself as a kick returner and speedy running back.

This past season, he earned a place on the 53-man roster to start the year, and was named the starting kick returner. But after a knee injury sidelined him for four weeks, he was benched for free agent-signee Godwin Igwebuike. Eventually, he was released and signed to the practice squad.

He's played 17 games in his career, including one last season where he rushed six times for 30 yards.

McFarland, 24, could still land with an NFL team this season but will get an opportunity to showcase his skills in the UFL in the spring and, hopefully, earn another opportunity somewhere during training camp.
