Steelers Bench Mitch Trubisky

The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a quarterback change.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a change at quarterback, benching Mitch Trubisky and replacing him with Mason Rudolph during their Week 15 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Steelers are looking for any kind of answer as they try to replace Kenny Pickett, who is out with a high ankle sprain. Trubisky has started the two games in Pickett's absence, but after throwing two interceptions against the Colts, his third since taking over for Pickett, Pittsburgh is now moving to their third option after a tough start by Trubisky in Week 15.

Rudolph hasn't played a game for the Steelers since the 2021 season. He's 5-4-1 all-time as Pittsburgh's starter, throwing for 2,366 yards and 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.

The Steelers only have two quarterbacks on their active roster. They recently signed Trace McSorley to their practice squad, but did not elevate him for the game.

Pickett could return as soon as next week from his ankle sprain. However, with the Steelers on the outside of the playoff race, they could be cautious with his return.
