Report: Steelers Considering Unexpected CB in First-Round
PITTSBURGH -- There have been many names passed around as the Pittsburgh Steelers potential first-round pick, but the latest player to make his way up to 17 wasn't one many anticipated.
According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, Miami cornerback Tyrique Stevenson is working his way up draft boards, so much so, that he's considered an option for the Steelers at pick 17.
Stevenson has been viewed as a pretty consistent second or third-round cornerback, just below names like Deonte Banks, Emmanual Forbes and Kelee Ringo. If he's moving up, he's likely to jump at least two of those names before draft day.
The Steelers met with Stevenson at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, sent their former cornerback and current scout, Ike Taylor, to his Pro Day and had him in for a pre-draft visit.
Stevenson's journey started at Georgia, where he played 19 games over two seasons for the Bulldogs. He finished his career (two years at Georgia and two years at Miami) with three interceptions, 21 pass deflections and six tackles for loss.
