Steelers DE DeMarvin Leal Suffers Elbow Injury vs. 49ers

The Pittsburgh Steelers lose a second defender in their season opener.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers defensive line is now down two players as they close out their Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. The team announced defensive end DeMarvin Leal suffered an elbow injury and is questionable to return to the game.

Leal was announced as a starter coming into the game after Larry Ogunjobi missed practice time with a foot ailment. After defensive tackle Cam Heyward left with a groin injury, Leal and Ogunjobi began to play alongside each other on the inside.

Leal suffered the injury in the third quarter.

Heyward returned to the field for one play after Leal's injury but was helped off afterward.

Without Leal and Heyward, the Steelers will rely on Ogunjobi, Isaiahh Loudermilk, and rookie Keeanu Benton along the defensive line. Montravius Adams will help at nose tackle.

All Steelers will continue to provide updates on Leal's injury as more information becomes available.
