Steelers OC Calls Out George Pickens in Meeting
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are working through effort issues with wide receiver George Pickens, and to try and move on/correct the situation, they've acknowledged the lapse in commitment in meetings.
Offensive coordinator Eddie Faulkner said he still believes Pickens can turn things around. However, he did confirm the wideout's lack of effort on various plays, including a run by Jaylen Warren that Pickens admitted not wanting to block on to avoid injury, was brought to the attention of the team this week.
"My reaction is, we have to go out there and execute on every play. To the highest level every play. That's my expectation," Faulkner said. "... How do you handle that? You address it. You present it to the group. You make sure that it's called out amongst the guys and they understand where your stance is and then you move on from that."
When asked if Faulkner did address the situation in front of the group, he confirmed.
Faulkner did not know whether or not the team would consider benching Pickens this week as a disciplinary reaction to his play, and when asked if Pickens wants to be in Pittsburgh said, "I think he's a young guy that has to continue to learn how to be a young professional."
Where does the team go from here?
"You keep on hammering away at it. That's our job and that's what we'll do," Faulkner said.
The Steelers will look for improved effort from their young wide receiver, and will need all hands in the pile as they try to climb back into the playoff picture over these final three weeks of the regular season.
