The Pittsburgh Steelers could be knocked out of the playoff race in Week 17.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers face playoff elimination in Week 17 but are still in control of keeping their chances alive before the final week of the season.

For the first time this season, the Steelers could be knocked out of playoff contention. However, they'd need everything to go wrong in order to be out of the race prior to their Week 18 trip to Baltimore. And a win over the Seattle Seahawks shuts down any chance of them being kicked out of the playoff picture.

Here's what needs to happen in order for the Steelers to be eliminated from playoff contention, according to SteelersNow.

  • Steelers loss to the Seattle Seahawks and
  • Indianapolis Colts WIN over the Las Vegas Raiders AND
  • Buffalo Bills WIN over the New England Patriots AND
  • Los Angeles Chargers WIN over the Denver Broncos AND
  • Jacksonville Jaguars WIN over the Carolina Panthers OR
  • Houston Texans WIN over the Tennessee Titans

To break it down, if the Steelers lose and the Colts, Bills, Chargers and Jaguars or Texans win, Pittsburgh has been eliminated from the 2023 playoff race.

The Steelers are 3.5 point underdogs to the Seahawks on the road in Week 17. They're preparing for Mason Rudolph to start at quarterback again, but are monitoring Kenny Pickett's progression to see if he's capable of playing.

Entering Week 17, the Steelers have a 13% chance to make the playoffs, according to the New York Times simulator.
