Reports Gaining Steam About Steelers Trading Up
PITTSBURGH -- At this point, the Pittsburgh Steelers have spoken to all 31 other teams about the possibility of trading up or back in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. And with rumors floating around that they're interested in sliding into the top 10 - or near it - the question arose on which position they'd move up to get.
Many assumed the top candidate was offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr., with Georgia OT Broderick Jones as the second option. But according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac, if they're trading up, they're doing so for a top cornerback.
And that the chances they make the move are "decent."
"I think the odds are decent they move up," Dulac writes. "But, if they do, I think it would only be for one of the two CBs they covet in the draft.
Now, how likely is it that they make the move? Well, to this point, there have been a handful of reports claiming they're interested in a trade. Now, NFL.com's Lace Zierlein believes they're in the running to be a team on the move.
Early reports said the Steelers spoke to the Chicago Bears (No. 9) and Tennessee Titans (No. 11) about trading up. General manager Omar Khan said during his pre-draft press conference that they will have spoke to all 31 other teams by the time the draft starts.
The Steelers have held pre-draft visits with Christian Gonzalez, Devon Witherpoon, Deonte Banks and Joey Porter Jr., all of who are believed to be early first-round picks.
Any of the four could be the player they'll go after.
