Steelers Have Grand Opportunity At Hand vs Bills
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers walk into their second preseason game with a chance to answer a lot of questions. After defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and sparking a conversation much bigger than the talent they faced in their preseason opener, things change as they host the Buffalo Bills at Acrisure Stadium.
According to head coach Mike Tomlin, the Steelers will roll all of their healthy starters onto the field for the first time together this season. That means T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Cam Heyward will all see action, and Patrick Peterson and Joey Porter Jr. will take the field for the first time in a black and gold uniform.
On the other side, the Bills are planning to pay their starters, including quarterback Josh Allen, for at least a quarter. Pittsburgh will probably match that, leaving Kenny Pickett and company out there until Allen sits down.
So, for at least a quarter of football, the Steelers get to show just how real the Tampa Bay win was, and how well they can handle one of the best teams in the AFC, and an opponent that beat them 38-3 in Pickett's first start.
There has been a lot of talk about how good the Steelers are this season. The hype has exceeded any expectations, and many have Super Bowl visions already in their head before the team takes the field in a regular season game.
It's not wrong to believe this group can be special. With a star-studded defense that seemingly filled all - or at least most - of their holes and a second-year quarterback with very good weapons, the pieces are there for this to be Pittsburgh's year.
Buffalo will tell us a lot, though. If the Steelers walk away with a win during the first-team, the optimism is going to skyrocket. If they struggle, it'll dim.
They want victory and to showcase their talent against the highest level of competition. The Bills are pretty close to the top.
Pittsburgh's first chance to show us how good this team is comes against Buffalo.
