PITTSBURGH -- A crucial member of some of the best Pittsburgh Steelers teams in history has passed away this week. According to a report from WTAE in Pittsburgh, former Steelers linebacker Andy Russell has died. He was 82 years old.

Russell, a former 16th-round draft pick of the Steelers in 1963, played his entire career in black and gold. He accounted for 38 sacks and 18 interceptions in 168 games.

He missed the second year of his professional football career to serve in the United States Army and in 1973, after one of the finest seasons on the field of his career, he won the Alan Page Community Award.

Russell earned seven Pro Bowl selections and Second-Team All-Pro honors in 1972. He won two, back-to-back Super Bowl titles with the Steelers, helping taking home victories in Super Bowl IX and Super Bowl X.
