Steelers Could Make Splash Trade for Star LB

The Pittsburgh Steelers may look for another star linebacker through a trade.
In this story:

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will begin negotiating with free agency in the upcoming weeks, but they likely have a list of players ready to go, hoping they can get their hands on a few once the open market begins.

One name that may not be on the minds of many, but who could be on the mind of the Steelers, is linebacker Haason Reddick.

The veteran pass rusher is likely leaving the Eagles after spending the last two seasons in Philadelphia. In making two Pro Bowls the last two years, Reddick has accumulated 27 sacks, 24 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Now, at 29 years old, he's looking for a new team. The Eagles could release Reddick post-June 1, saving them $10.123, or they could find a trade partner beforehand. The Steelers could be a landing spot in both scenarios.

Head coach Mike Tomlin has always loved position flexibility, and Reddick's ability to bounce inside and play the edge makes him a fit for Pittsburgh's needs. With Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts filling the starting roles on the inside, and T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith manning the edge, Reddick would be the third option for both, and allow the Steelers to eliminate two needs with one signing.

The money could be costly, but the Steelers are in a spot to make a splash. If Mason Rudolph re-signs, it likely won't be for more than $5-7 million per season. Reddick costs $21.87 million in 2024, but general manager Omar Khan has always found ways to work out "splitting the bill" when it comes to trades for high-priced players.

If Pittsburgh could acquire Reddick for less than his 2024 cap hit, he's now in the mix to be another superstar piece to Pittsburgh's defense.

As of now, reports claim "multiple teams" are interested in Reddick. Don't be surprised if the Steelers emerge as one of the candidates.
