Steelers Host Former Commanders CB Corn Elder
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are doing some homework at the slot cornerback position, hosting former Washington Commander Corn Elder, according to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson.
Elder, 28, was the Panthers' fifth-round pick in 2017 out of Miami, and spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons in Carolina. He bounced over to the New York Giants in 2019 but returned to the Panthers before the end of the season, and sticking with them in 2020.
In 2021 and 2022, Elder played for the Commanders. In 35 games, he's recorded 48 tackles, four pass deflections, an interception and a forced fumble.
The Steelers could be signaling that Duke Dawson will miss extended time with a knee injury that he suffered in the preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dawson went down in the fourth quarter and did not return. He was seen at practice the following day but was not dressed in pads.
If signed, Elder will compete with Elijah Riley and Chandon Sullivan for the team's nickelback spot on the 53-man roster.
