Steelers LB Chapelle Russell Suffers Knee Injury vs Buccaneers
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Chapelle Russell has been ruled out for the remainder of the team's preseason opener after suffering a knee injury in the opening half.
Russell played with the second team entering the second quarter but didn't take too many snaps before heading to the sideline. After the broadcast showed veteran Elandon Roberts comforting him near the trainers, it was announced that he would miss the remainder of the game.
Russell came into the game competing for the team's final roster spot with Nick Kwiotkoski and Tanner Muse. After spending last season on the Steelers' practice squad, he was making plays in training camp to give himself a shot at the 53-man roster.
Without Russell, the team will lean on Mark Robinson, Muse and Kwiotkoski at inside linebacker, and have Cole Holcomb, Roberts and Kwon Alexander dressed if needed.
