NFL Reviewing Steelers After T.J. Watt Concussion

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going through a routine investigation for their handling of T.J. Watt's concussion.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers already have their biggest star in the concussion protocol as they prepare for a pivotal matchup with the Indianapolis Colts and, on top of that, will have to deal with an inquiry from the NFL and NFLPA.

According to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Steelers will be investigated for their handling of T.J. Watt, who reported concussion symptoms after playing the entirety of the Patriots game last week. This is standard procedure for any time a player goes into concussion protocol, according to Rapoport.

Watt took a knee from Ezekiel Elliott on the first play from scrimmage last week against the Patriots and exited, then reentered the game multiple times. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did not confirm that Watt had been checked for a concussion along the sidelines during the game, but Watt was spotted walking into the blue medical tent with the NFL's concussion observer.

Tomlin said that Watt's participation in practice would dictate whether or not they will be cleared to play against the Colts this weekend. He will also have to get a final all-clear from an independent neurologist before the team leaves for Indianapolis if he is to play.

Watt was dressed and participated in individual drills during the first day of practice this week, All Steelers reported earlier. It's unclear just how much work he did during the rest of practice.
