Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. Shares Special Moment With Dad After First Interception
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers second-round pick Joey Porter Jr. needed just one NFL game to record his first professional interception. And afterward, he made sure to share the moment with his dad, Joey Porter Sr.
After a pretty big celebration on the sideline, Porter Jr. ran to the stands, where he found his dad and handed him the football. The two shared a smile and a dap-up before Porter Jr. headed back to the bench.
It took a minute for Porter to find his dad, but once he did it was well worth the search. He picked off one pass in college and tried, but failed to give the ball to his mom then. This time, he didn't miss the chance to share a special moment with his family.
“I was looking for him the whole time but I couldn’t find him," Porter said. "He was all the way up in the nosebleeds so when he finally came down I got the ball back and I gave it to him.”
Porter made it known during training camp that he was determined to showcase his catching skills, and has come down with a few interceptions during training camp.
"Every day I try to go out there and snag one or two," Porter Jr. said. "It was kind of to shut up everybody on the outside who said I couldn’t catch. I had to show them that I can."
That didn't take long to translate to a game, and the rookie will look to keep showcasing his ball skills as the Steelers move forward.
