Former Steelers QB Named Player of Week
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his heroic efforts stepping in for the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9.
Dobbs was acquired by the Vikings at the trade deadline after the team lost starting QB Kirk Cousins to a torn achilles. Dobbs was made the backup behind rookie Jaren Hall, but had to step into action in the first quarter after Hall left with a concussion.
Just days after arriving, and with no practice reps to lean on, Dobbs led the Vikings to a 31-28 win over the Falcons while completing 20 of 30 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Dobbs will remain the Vikings starter moving forward, continuing his first full season as a starter. The first eight games of the year, the Steelers' former backup led the Arizona Cardinals, and will now try to carry Minnesota to the postseason in place of Cousins.
