Steelers QB Kenny Pickett Takes Step Toward Return
PITTSBURGH -- Kenny Pickett is expected to be back on the field this weekend, even if he's not starting for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The second-year quarterback is still nursing an ankle injury nearly four weeks after undergoing surgery but took a step in the right direction to start the week.
On the Steelers' first day of practice in preparation for the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18, Pickett was a full participant, marking the first time he practiced in full since his injury.
Head coach Mike Tomlin and Pickett himself both said they expect the quarterback to be available in Week 18, with Pickett being the backup to Mason Rudolph. His return would mark the first time he's been active for a game in five weeks.
The Steelers are dealing with a few other injuries as well. Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee) and inside linebacker Elandon Roberts (pectoral) missed the first day of practice. Fitzpatrick has missed the last two games, while Roberts missed last week.
Running back Najee Harris (knee), guard Isaac Seumalo (shoulder), safety Trenton Thompson (neck) and defensive tackle Cam Heyward (groin) were all limited.
Thompson missed the last two games with his injury and will be a name to monitor throughout the week. Harris, Heyward and Seumalo have all missed practice time with their injuries but have not missed games due to them.
