Steelers Looking to Re-Sign Starting CB

The Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to do business with their slot cornerback.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to keep at least most of their pieces together this upcoming season, which includes players who may have been on their 2023 roster as fillers.

With free agency approaching, the Steelers are evaluating which players they'll look to re-sign and which they'll let walk. They've already started working through cuts, releasing three players earlier in the week. Next, they'll decide which of their own free agents they'll negotiate with - which includes one of their starting cornerbacks.

During an interview with Ron Lippock of Steelers Takeaways, slot cornerback Chandon Sullivan said he and the Steelers discussed the future during their exit interview. Sullivan is scheduled to hit free agency after his solo year in Pittsburgh.

"I felt like I did the most with the opportunities I had. I didn’t play as many snaps as I’m used to – that’s just how it ended up schematically. But I took advantage of the opportunities I had on defense and on special teams," Sullivan said. "I hadn’t played a lot on special teams before but I think I played well there. The team told me before I left that they would like to do more business with me, but who knows. We know how the business of the NFL can be. But no stress – I know I’ll end up playing somewhere."

Sullivan was the team's started on their depth chart all season, playing 17 games and recording 22 tackles, one interception and six passes defensed. He allowed just 60.7% of passes thrown his way to be completed.

Currently, the Steelers have just Joey Porter Jr., Patrick Peterson, Darius Rush and Cory Trice on their roster.
