Steelers' Minkah Fitzpatrick Taken to Hospital After Injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers' star safety is being evaluated at a local hospital.

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin provided an update on his star safety, who left their Week 2 thriller against the Cleveland Browns early with an injury.

Tomlin said that Steelers starting free safety Fitzpatrick had suffered a chest injury and had been taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Fitzpatrick had been dinged up initially on a play in the first quarter. He took a knee to the head on the same play that knocked Browns' star running back Nick Chubb out of the game and possibly out for the season, as he twisted his knee at an awkward angle.

Fitzpatrick eventually returned to the game, but left later in the second half after a long run from Jerome Ford.

Pittsburgh's defense is already without defensive captain Cam Heyward, who was placed on Injured Reserve with a groin injury.

Without Fitzpatrick, the Steelers relied on Damontae Kazee and Keanu Neal at safety, with Miles Killebrew and Elijah Riley as options off the bench. Riley came up big at the end of the game with a pressure on Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson and sack on third down to set up a game-sealing stop on fourth down with one minute left.
