Steelers Set Up For Another Signing

The Pittsburgh Steelers are likely going to add one more to their roster.
In this story:

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have cleared a spot on their 90-man roster following the release of safety Scott Nelson. They now have 89 players heading into training camp, but their recent activity makes you believe they'll add another name before Latrobe.

During minicamp week, the Steelers brought in two inside linebackers for tryouts. Jermaine Carter and Nick Kwiatkoski spent two days in Pittsburgh, working with the team before they broke for their final offseason break. Neither left with a contract, but that could change in the coming days.

Pittsburgh has no reason not to sign another player before training camp. The release of Nelson comes at a position that is likely filled, but inside linebacker is currently only holding five players, and the Steelers typically keep five on their roster.

Competition is always a good thing, and the Steelers may want some competition in their inside linebacker room.

If the Steelers did sign Carter or Kwiatkoski, they'd be landing a player with previous starting experience. Carter carries 72 games with 31 starts to the offseason, accumulating 194 tackles since being drafted in 2018. Kwiatkoski has 89 games under his belt, including 34 starts. He's recorded 293 tackles, seven sacks and six forced fumbles during his career.

The Steelers' current inside linebacker room holds Mark Robinson, Elandon Roberts, Cole Holcomb, Tanner Muse and Chapelle Russell.
