Steelers Sign Former Bears DT Armon Watts
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding another name to their defensive line, signing former Chicago Bears tackle Armon Watts, according to his agent, David Canter.
Watts spent last season in Chicago, starting 12 games and playing in all 17 games for the Bears. He recorded 35 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack.
Prior to his time with the Bears, Watt spent his first three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2019 draft out of Arkansas. He played 40 games for the Vikings, including 10 starts, and recorded 90 tackles, seven sacks - including a five-sack season in 2021 - and three forced fumbles.
One of those seven sacks was actually on Ben Roethlisberger in 2021.
Watts will add more veteran experience to the Steelers' defensive line as they look for depth at all three positions. He's the second defensive tackle to sign with Pittsburgh, following former Los Angeles Charger Breiden Fehoko.
He'll compete for playing time this summer with Fehoko, Isaiahh Loudermilk, Montravius Adams and DeMarvin Leal.
