Steelers Sign XFL CB Luq Barcoo
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing XFL cornerback Luq Barcoo to their 90-man roster, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Barcoo, 24, played for two NFL teams already, spending time with the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars before heading to the XFL. This season for the San Antonio Brahmas, he recorded one interception, 31 tackles and a sack.
Under the XFL contracts, Barcoo was not eligible to participate in Steelers rookie minicamp but still received an offer from Pittsburgh. According to Fowler, he also got deals from the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys.
Head coach Mike Tomlin said the team has been utilizing XFL and USFL tape to evaluate players they could sign from the spring leagues. Barcoo becomes the second player after wide receiver Hakeem Butler.
Barcoo steps onto the team with an opportunity to compete for the Steelers slot cornerback role, and a depth spot. He'll be up against Madre Harper, Chandon Sullivan, Duke Dawson, James Pierre and Ahkello Witherspoon for a spot on the 53-man roster this fall.
