PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will continue to ride the hot hand this week as they open their 2023 playoff run against the Bills in Buffalo this weekend.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlins announced this week that Mason Rudolph, who opened the 2023-24 season as the third-string quarterback, would remain the starting quarterback as the team heads north to Buffalo.

Rudolph has completed 74.8% of his passes and is averaging 238 passing yards, one passing touchdown and no interceptions per game since stepping in as the starting quarterback three weeks ago. The Steelers have won every game he's started.

Rudolph originally entered only because, after Kenny Pickett went down with an ankle injury and was set to be sidelined for four weeks after undergoing surgery. Mitch Trubiksy was first named the starter following Pickett's injury but was benched against the Colts in Week 15.

Adding Rudolph to the starting lineup has been transformational for the Steelers offense, who are averaging 27 points and 384 yards of total offense per game with him as the starter.
