The Pittsburgh Steelers got a big piece of their defensive secondary back at practice this week.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers got a significant boost to start their week of practice ahead of a visit to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in Week 16.

Safety Trenton Thompson, a key part of filling the gaps left by injuries to Keanu Neal and Minkah Fitzpatrick and Damatae Kazee's suspension, has returned to practice this week in a limited capacity after missing all of last week with a neck injury.

Thompson did not practice all week in the lead-up to last week's intra-divisional game against the Bengals, a 34-11 win for the Steelers in their home finale. In his return to the practice field this week, Thompson was a limited participant.

Fitzpatrick did not practice during the first session of the week and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin labeled him as questionable for the Seahawks game to open practices during Week 17.

Thompson, who Tomlin also said was questionable to start preparation for the Seahawks game, has made 21 total tackles, intercepted a pass and defended three since stepping into a larger role in the depleted Steelers secondary.
